When our friends at
Sculpture Studios in Basildon asked us to help on a commission from tech firm
Oppo Digital to build a giant pair of headphones, well, it
sounded good to us.
They made the main structure out of MDF and polystyrene and then let Hill Upholstery and Design loose on it. We added a layer of foam around the frame, then added a further layer on one side to create the soft ear pieces. A spot of intense pattern making and then we were ready to cover with a black faux leather from
Vescom (Silica range) with creases in just the right places to complete the spongy headphone effect.
The same again was done for the headband which all added to the look of Oppo’s own headphones. Sculpture Studios then added their finishing touches before it was shipped off to its destination – London Heathrow Airport.
The giant headphones now take pride of place in a dedicated Oppo listening lounge situated within the Terminal Five Business Lounge. We are chuffed to have helped create something that make people stop, look and listen.
